Who Are We?

We are Division 8! We consist of 14 high schools from Benicia, Vallejo, American Canyon, Fairfield, Vacaville, and Napa. Our mascot is the 8 ball, with our colors being black, white, and silver! We are one of five Divisions in Region 9 Waves (Division 2N/S, Division 8, and Division 26N/S - North and East Bay Key Clubs) and one of 80 in the California-Nevada-Hawai'i District! We aim to provide an outlet for high schoolers to perform service, strengthen leadership skills, and participate in charity work, all while making memories that will last a lifetime.

We hope that you join us as we navigate another unique term! Contact your school's Key Club officers for more information.

History

Our organization was the inspired vision of California State Commissioner of Schools Albert C. Olney and vocational education teacher Frank C. Vincent, who worked together to establish the first Key Club at Sacramento High School in California on May 7, 1925. Female students were first admitted into Key Club in 1976, eleven years before women were admitted to Kiwanis International, our sponsoring organization.

KCI has taught generations our core values through community service: caring, character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership, which were adopted by our International Board in 2002. Members, a part of the Kiwanis Family, develop themselves into young leaders as they positively impact their schools and communities.

The Sacramento chapter of KCI is located in our very own CNH District, in Division 7 North!

Where We Are Today

Today, Key Club exists in almost 5,000 high school campuses in 30 different countries. It has recently expanded to much of the world, including countries in the Caribbean, Asia, Australia, etc. With over 12 million hours of community service a year, KCI is an organization comprised of multi-state districts, divisions, and individual (non-district) Key Clubs in high school campuses worldwide. We are funded by annual dues paid by members, as well as generous contributions by Kiwanis International to fund service leadership programs. Key Club’s District Executives and International Presidents/Vice Presidents/Trustees are high school leaders elected by the members at district and international conventions. Even with historical events going on that affect the organization's operations such as the COVID-19 pandemic, that hasn't stopped us from making an impact in our communities; it further amplified that effort.

The Objectives of Key Club International

  • To develop initiative and leadership.

  • To provide experience in living and working together.

  • To serve the school and community.

  • To cooperate with the school principal.

  • To prepare for useful citizenship.

  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual, rather than to the material values of life.

  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

  • To promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contacts.

  • To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

  • To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service, and to build better communities.

  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will.
